Mission Statement

The MDBCC aims to propel and strengthen the quality of research activity in specific areas of medical biotechnology in order to create centres of excellence which will gain international recognition as leaders in these fields.

In accordance with this aim, the MDBCC has the following specific objectives:

• To acquire and become competent in specific enabling and core technologies which will support medical biotechnology researchers throughout the country to achieve and sustain world class research output.

• To support and encourage research in areas of medical biotechnology as described in the priority setting document of the National Biotechnology Directorate.

• To generate and protect intellectual property in the research priority areas and to encourage and assist in the commercialization of the intellectual property so generated.

• To generate new platform technologies for the delivery of vaccines and diagnostic tests designed for effective use in developing countries.
